ABOUT

I am a Research Associate at the Center for Genetic Epidemiology, Keck School of Medicine of University of Southern California. My research interests include human genomic variations and its impact to differential health risks.

I was born and brought up in the southern part of India. I received my doctoral degree from the Life Sciences and Biotechnology department at Jadavpur University, Kolkata in India. I started my research career in forensic DNA fingerprinting at Central Forensic Science Laboratory, India with the doctoral fellowship from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. Then, I continued my research work at the CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad in India with the research associate fellowship from the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. Further, I held various post-doctoral and associate scientist positions at Wadsworth Center of New York State Department of Health in Albany (USA), Doñana Biological Station in Seville (Spain), Qatar University (Qatar), State University of New York at Buffalo (USA), Dasman Diabetes Institute (Kuwait), New York University Abu Dhabi (UAE) and Georgia Institute of Technology (USA).

Having worked in diverse international research laboratories, I have published 27 research articles in peer-reviewed international journal and two book chapters. I was honored with several prestigious awards and fellowships for my outstanding scientific contributions in the field of human population genetics. To highlight, Gabriel W. Lasker Award and the invitation as a Foreign Guest Scientist to attend “International Genetics Conference on The Genetics of the Peoples of Africa and the Transatlantic African Diaspora” held at University of North Carolina, USA honoring my contribution to population and anthropological genetics research.

I am serving as a Editorial Board Member for the European Journal of Human Genetics and Review Editor for Frontiers in Genetics – Evolutionary and Population Genetics, and also peer reviewer for several international scientific journals. I am an active member in the world-wide professional scientific societies. I also served as the Acting Head for Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Core facility of Dasman Diabetes Institute in Kuwait for a short term in 2018.
